Team Description

The Investment Manager Assurance team works in conjunction with the front office to ensure the quality of suitability information and application of appropriate mandates is consistent across IW&I.

  • The primary purpose of the Investment Manager Assurance Team is to review, monitor and enforce the suitability processes
  • The team will build and maintain strong relationships with the Investment Management division and will work regionally to ensure that portfolios are suitable for clients
  • The team will be responsible for the management information and feedback as a result of reviews and monitoring.
  • The team is also responsible for implementing suitability processes across the firm and ensuring that training is held with Investment Managers and front office staff where required
  • The team will be responsible for the due diligence audit work for non-centrally researched stocks and the feedback to Investment Managers and Office Heads where required

Description of role and key responsibilities

  • To carry out suitability reviews on client portfolios within the Suitability Monitoring process
  • To feedback to Investment Managers and where relevant Office Heads, as part of a formal reporting process, any review actions and recommendations and provide support throughout the remediation process
  • To ensure that Investment Manager actions are completed to the deadline

Main tasks:

  • First class communication and relationship management with the Front office. Building relationships and maintaining these relationships and building relationships with other areas of the business
  • Accurate and comprehensive preparation of Investment Manager Review documents
  • Update and maintenance of Investment Manager Review Records in order to aid the production of MI to senior managements
  • Undertake duties as specified by the Head of the Investment Manager Assurance Team
  • Encourage take up and implementation of Suitability Review process
  • Review Investment Managers for a designated region and provide reports and feedback
  • Ensure review tasks are completed within agreed timescales
  • Ensure review actions are completed by the Investment Manager within the agreed timescales
  • Check quality of KYC info and link to hard evidence in client files
  • Interact with IM's and Approvers to review overall suitability and KYC standards and support throughout the remediation process where the effectiveness or quality is deemed insufficient.
  • Provide Support to Office Heads with regards to IM reviews and subsequent actions
  • To understand and have the ability to explain the Management Information Reports on the suitability process provided to the Front Office

Core skills and knowledge

  • Prior experience and knowledge of Pulse especially the Suitability and KYC sections is essential
  • Understanding of the various portfolio structures used in the Front Office
  • Understanding of the Suitability Regulations and how these are implemented within IW&I
  • Understanding of the importance of suitability and what an unsuitable portfolio would look like
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Keen interest in investment markets and eagerness to learn more
  • Knowledge of Private Client work is useful
  • Ability to analyse and use MI data to compose written reports
  • High level of attention to detail
