Team Description

The IW&I Operational Risk team is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the IW&I operational risk management framework, policies, and practices. Business continuity and operational resilience sits within the Operational Risk team.

Description of role and key responsibilities

This role reports into the Business Continuity and Operational Resilience Senior Manager and will focus on delivering and maintaining the Business Continuity Management and Operational Resilience frameworks for Investec Wealth & Investment (IW&I).

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide expertise to ensure accurate / timely completion and maintenance of business impact analysis (BIA) and business continuity plans (BCP).
  • Engage with business and functional areas to conduct BIA. Identify critical processes, recovery time objectives (RTO's) and map dependencies (i.e., people, third party vendors, technology).
  • In close partnership with the business, design the requirements for and ensure the implementation of BCP's that consider key business disruption scenarios.
  • Liaise with Technology to ensure disaster recovery planning and RTOs are aligned to BIA's.
  • Provide robust review and challenge of BIA's and BCP's.
  • Design and conduct testing of business continuity plans, ensuring results and lessons learnt are captured and reported accordingly.
  • Maintain business continuity systems and tools.
  • Conduct regular reviews of vendor resilience.
  • Support delivery and maintenance of Operational Resilience regulatory requirements which include important business services, impact tolerances, mapping, scenario testing and self-assessment.
  • Provide input into operational resilience working group and steering committee, prepare reporting as and when required.
  • Monitor relevant regulatory obligations and peer/industry developments
  • Promote a culture of operational resilience across IW&I through regular training and awareness.
  • Produce Management Information packs which highlight key areas of risk or further development.
  • Support the Business Continuity and Operational Resilience Senior Manager with ad hoc requests as and when required.

Core skills and Knowledge 

Skills and how they are applied:

  • Communication – ability to engage with a wide range of colleagues across business areas (i.e., Front Office, Technology, Operations) and articulately discuss / write reports on various issues (verbal / written / presentation).
  • Challenge – ability to challenge multiple SMEs and management on a wide range of topics and risks.
  • Attention to detail – to pick up on errors and produce accurate work, with strong analytical capability.
  • Organised – work to multiple deadlines yet maintain flexibility through the workday.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to deliver at pace and produce high quality output.

Qualifications

To include:

  • Business Continuity standards such as ISO 22301.
  • Detailed knowledge of business continuity management methodologies and principles.
  • Sound knowledge of operational resilience regulation in financial services (preferable but not essential).

Experience

  • Experience in disaster recovery and business recovery, preferably within financial services.

  • Running effective workshops with stakeholders.

Investec specific knowledge and how it is applied

  •  No Investec knowledge is required 

 

Changes in the market, products, legislation & regulation relevant to the business area

  • Awareness to changes in markets, products, legislation, and regulatory bodies that could affect Investec Wealth & Investment
