We deal with derivatives on crude oil, refined products, power (electricity), natural gas, base metals, precious metals and agriculture. Our role is to help clients manage their exposure to these risks. This involves taking the time to understand our clients business and their needs and risks, then suggesting ideas to manage those risks. Keeping them up-to-date on markets and executing trades. We deal with airlines, hauliers, shipping companies, manufacturers, food companies, and north sea oil and gas producers, renewable infra, amongst others. We trade swaps and options on these underlyers. The commodity team is part of the Risk Solutions group that provides hedging products on FX and rates in addition to commodities
• Dealing – pricing, executing and hedging trades with existing clients while simultaneously offsetting risk in the street (we do not run risk positions)• Relationship Management – keeping a good dialogue with existing clients, meeting them periodically and introducing them to other areas of the bank to make our client relationships as broad as possible• Origination – identifying potential new clients. Meeting them to understand their needs. Helping them through the process of setting up trading lines• Analytics – working on spreadsheets that provide data for market updates to clients. Writing market updates. Supporting and expanding bespoke code and spreadsheets that provide pricing for the desk and automatic updates to clients• Business Development & Strategy – the commodity desk has lots of scope to expand and we are actively pursuing a number of new sectors. Need to push this expansion by looking at news sectors and finding strategies to expand the business wherever we can form mutually beneficial relationships• Bringing on new clients – working with the sales to bring on new clients, including potential exposure analysis and bringing them through the credit process
