Team Description:

Private Credit Management, Direct Lending

The Investec Direct Lending business is a leading private debt manager focused on the lower mid-market. The team originates, structures and provides debt solutions to private-equity-backed businesses with a typical EBITDA between £3m and £50m across the UK, Ireland, Benelux and DACH regions. Private Credit Management helps scale the platform through proactive credit oversight, portfolio insights, data governance and continuous process improvement. The business has more than 50 investment professionals and over €3bn of assets under management and is one of the largest players in its target market segment.

Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of the Credit Analyst is to support the proactive management and oversight of Direct Lending portfolio assets. The role will take ownership of core credit and data processes, including monthly management information analysis, covenant monitoring, annual reviews, portfolio reporting and data governance. The analyst will work closely with Private Credit Management, Origination, Credit and other stakeholders to identify emerging risks, deliver high-quality analysis and improve the efficiency and scalability of portfolio-management processes.

Responsibilities Include :

  • Portfolio and credit management – Monitor financial performance, liquidity, leverage and covenant compliance; prepare annual reviews; assess amendments, waivers and additional lending requests; identify and escalate early-warning indicators; and contribute to the management of deteriorating or challenged credits.
  • Management information analysis and reporting – Review monthly management information against budget, prior year and base case within agreed timelines. Explain the underlying drivers of performance and provide clear, concise commentary and insight.
  • Data governance – Maintain accurate and complete portfolio data within 73 Strings and other relevant systems, including financial information, covenants, capital structures and compliance reporting. Track the receipt of management information and compliance certificates and escalate gaps promptly.
  • Credit analysis – Apply a sound foundation in credit analysis to assess financial performance, cash generation, leverage, liquidity, covenant headroom and key business risks. Support annual reviews, amendments and additional lending opportunities in a private-equity-backed lending environment.
  • Portfolio insights – Support portfolio reviews, early-warning reporting and thematic analysis to identify trends and inform credit and portfolio strategy.
  • Process improvement and automation – Help automate management information extraction, annual-review preparation, portfolio reporting and other recurring workflows using 73 Strings, dashboards and appropriate technology.
  • Stakeholder engagement – Build constructive relationships with Private Credit Management, Origination, Credit, Restructuring and operational teams. Communicate clearly, meet internal service standards and escalate issues promptly.
  • Ownership and delivery – Take responsibility for assigned deliverables, meet agreed deadlines and continuously improve the quality, efficiency and scalability of the team's work. Demonstrate curiosity, sound judgement and an ongoing commitment to personal development.

Key Competencies required include:

  • Excellent command of PowerPoint, Word and Excel, together with an ability to use relevant portfolio systems, databases and analytical tools.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of the UK and European private equity and private credit markets.
  • Sound understanding of financial reporting, including the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
  • Sound understanding of credit and risk, including leverage, liquidity, cash generation and covenant analysis.
  • Ability to think critically, identify the drivers of performance and communicate clear conclusions.
  • Ability to research, implement and deliver projects within agreed timelines.
  • Willingness to learn and the ability to adopt new skills, systems and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to develop strong market knowledge and maintain awareness of the broader commercial and economic environment.
  • Regulatory knowledge as applicable for the role.
  • Act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating our customers fairly.
  • Personable and collaborative, with the ability to build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Background :

  • Postgraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or related discipline.
  • CA, CFA or MBA qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
