Credit Risk, Corporate Credit / Credit Committee Member (10695)

What the team does

The UK Senior Credit team covers deals from the Investec Direct Lending (“IDL”) team whose strategy is to provide debt financing to private businesses (EBITDA typically €2m-€50m) in the UK and mainland Europe (specifically the Benelux and DACH regions) for both financial sponsor and non- financial sponsor backed owners. In addition to this, UK Senior Credit cover / analyse lending opportunities within the leveraged finance market in India.

The IDL team have a proactive, flexible and solutions-driven approach and seek to customise debt solutions that fit the client's needs. Structures which UK Senior Credit need to assess as part of their analysis are typically senior secured debt and unitranches, integrated asset-based & cash flow solutions, subordinated debt and minority equity, working capital and capex/acquisition facilities with the ability to provide underwrites and/or bridge structures where a client need exists.

What will I be doing?

Credit process and deal management (80%)

  • The role will require the incumbent to have a proven track record in corporate leveraged finance and a strong knowledge of the direct lending market.
  • Participate in Credit Committee meetings for Direct Lending transactions. This will involve in person engagement with the deal team on their Credit applications and having the ability to debate / challenge requests and work with the team to find solutions that delivers for both bank and client.
  • Critically analyse & assess the merits of new deals presented by the front office desk to the UK Credit agenda.
  • Assess / document annual reviews, increases and/or amendments on existing loans. Ensure that the strategic direction of the exit remains appropriate and make recommendations where timelines/ deadlines are missed.
  • Research counterparties, markets and/or products as required and provide detailed insight to Credit and Risk Management stakeholders as required.
  • Provide members of the UK CC with appropriate business, credit and financial analysis of proposed counterparties and transactions. Present view on risks / rationale to support or otherwise to the team.
  • Write up decisions, outcomes and conditions that form part of the CC's view and recommendation.
  • Work with the Credit Administrators to facilitate an efficient Credit process, ensuring all required information is available to the CC for its decision-making, as well by documenting CC decisions (credit summaries & minutes).

 Credit Portfolio Analytics (20%)

  • Prepare deal summaries and transaction updates for credit reporting of the loan book to the board, rating agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Research and develop further analytical approaches to each portfolio (quantitative/qualitative).
  • Be a key point of contact for Credit Reporting to ensure accuracy of reporting dashboards, ensuring they are in line with Risk Appetite & Senior Mgt. requirements. Actively participate in IRB model discussions and output required to deliver same.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience working in banking / finance, with experience covering the Leveraged Finance market working for private equity / debt fund / bank / financial institution / accounting firm or other relevant entities.
  • Experience working in a Credit role considered an advantage, but not essential. Good transactions experience from a previous role essential.

Technical knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of and credibility within the UK & European credit market with strong analytical, writing and presentation skills.
  • A high level of competence in the analysis of company financial statements, business / operational and financial risks.
  • Good understanding of various debt / equity structures, and risk reward factors for leveraged finance transactions.
  • Knowledge of market standard leverage finance transactions as well as the customary terms & conditions of facility documentation.
  • Knowledge of general credit analysis techniques, adapting them as necessary to the specific counterparty and product as required. Working knowledge of financial research and portfolio management tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting standards and keeping aware of changes therein. As well as having up to date regulatory knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office.

  • Strong numerical, written and verbal reasoning skills.

  • Sense of commerciality and assessment of risk versus return.
  • Excellent teamwork, good interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct a deep level of research and analysis on own initiative.
  • Ability to write + present an informed credit assessment / opinion for a transaction submitted to Executive CC.
  • Good, up to date regulatory knowledge.
