Role Profile:
Investec Bank Channel Islands is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in focusing on delivering precise and actionable insights to support all areas within the business. The key responsibility is building processes that extract, manipulate and visualise data to enable the business to make informed data driven decisions.
The Data Analyst will collaborate closely with Data Engineers to source data and will actively support data governance initiatives within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various business areas to gather requirements and understand their data needs.
- Develop, maintain, and automate management information reports and dashboards using Microsoft Azure data tools and services.
- Conduct thorough analyses of historical data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
- Generate actionable insights and forecasts to support business strategies and initiatives.
- Work closely with data engineering to source all data from the “one data platform” (ODP). Identify any sources not currently in ODP and work with engineering to include them these sources.
- Work with data engineering to ensure data integrity, quality, and accessibility.
- Assist in the implementation of data governance policies and best practices.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to data analytics.
- Manage stakeholder expectations with clear and frequent lines of communication.
- Follow the teams change control process to deploy and update outputs into production.
- Document all processes and outputs created.
- Migrate existing analytics processes to using Power BI and or synapse Analytics where possible.
Core skills and knowledge:
- Proven experience in a data analyst role, preferably within the financial services sector.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and an ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Exceptionally numerate and able to interpret information (including the use of Advanced Analytics techniques), to spot trends, “tell a story” back to the business.
- Innate drive to “make things better than they were found” by evaluating existing processes, technologies and methods to identify income generators and cost savings.
- Takes initiative and has commitment and enthusiasm to follow projects to completion.
- Project Management: ability to self-manage research, design, prioritise, implement and deliver projects in a time-efficient manner.
- Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong desire to learn and develop new skills.
Technical skills:
- Proficient in SQL
- Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools.
- Experience in Microsoft Cloud-based tools for Analytics E.g. Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Strong proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions and VBA.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R is advantageous.
Preferred professional qualifications and exams (required for the role):
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst are advantageous.
- Additional certifications in data governance or data management (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) would be advantageous.
