The UK Data Governance (DG) team is responsible for instilling the principles of data governance within Investec plc, working with business to implement and operationally control DG processes and technologies in line with the Data Governance Policy and Data Quality procedure.
Roles and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated Data Governance Business Data Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be able to multi task at various levels within the business, across platforms and business areas and be comfortable with both business and technical environments.They will be responsible for conducting the operational components of the DG team to allow the effective day to day management of the data in an efficient manner.
Specific areas of responsibility include:
- Assist in the creation and monitoring of Data Validation (exception) reports.
- Performing data: cleansing, analysis, interpreting and visualisation.
- Implementing and maintaining a central data issue log, used for prioritisation and progress monitoring.
- Managing, tracking and escalation of data issues by facilitating regular working groups.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and remediation through changes to Ops processes or additional controls.
- Maintain and enhance the Business Glossary.
- Monitor Data Governance operational processes and exceptions.
- Work with IT to design and build scalable data processes that extract, transform, and visualise information using Power BI/Fabric, Dataflows, Databricks and Data factory.
- Develop a deep understanding of the business and data processes, using this knowledge to identify opportunities for automation, process optimisation and improved decision-making.
- Comfortable owning end to end data governance lifecycle with minimal oversight.
- Collaborate closely with the Central Data teams to source and integrate data from the One Data Platform (ODP) into the data validation engine.
- Identify data sources not yet in ODP, working with the data teams to bring them into the strategic data ecosystem in order to monitor the data quality.
- Work with stakeholders to define and maintain critical data elements for the business, ensuring accurate recording, monitoring and adherence to data-quality standards.
- Note: This list is not exhaustive. The successful candidate may be required to undertake additional duties consistent with the scope and seniority of the role. Engage with data stewards to define critical data elements and with the various IT and Ops teams to govern the data through ownership, definitions, and lineage.
Core skills and knowledge:
Governance
- Awareness data governance and Data quality principles
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrable facilitation techniques.
- Ability and experience of interacting with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation across multiple business areas.
- Ability to understand data gaps in current business process and assist in facilitating a programme of improvement.
Technical
- Knowledge of:
SQL: Proficient in SQL and other query languages used for data extraction and manipulation.
Data visualisation: Power BI
AI: GPT bases AI agent (Copilot studios, Chat GPT AI agents etc).
- Nice to have: Data: Data bricks, Data Factory.
- Understanding of Data Governance and Data Management
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (incl. Excel,Word)
Skills:
- Stakeholder Engagement: Able to quickly distil stakeholder questions into clear analytical requirements and deliver timely, actionable outputs in an accessible format.
- Communication & Influence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to adapt style and messaging for different audiences and stakeholders.
- Project Management: Strong ability to self-manage research, design solutions, prioritise work, and deliver projects efficiently and independently.
- Adaptability: Willingness and ability to rapidly learn new tools, technologies and methodologies.
- Data Storytelling & Visualisation: Ability to design engaging, interactive dashboards and outputs that translate data into meaningful stories.
- Business Analysis: Ability to do root cause analysis to identify data quality issues and remediate at source.
