Role Profile

The role:

This role provides dedicated support to the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax across each of the distinct areas of the function. The role holder assists with the day-to-day administration, monitoring, documentation and reporting activities that underpin data protection compliance, and operational tax obligations for Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Limited, operating under the direction and supervision of the line manager and escalating matters appropriately.


Data Protection Support

The role holder supports the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax in the day-to-day administration of data protection compliance activities, helping to ensure that statutory obligations are met and that records and processes are kept up to date.

Key responsibilities – Data Protection Support

  • Support the maintenance of the Bank's Register of Processing Activities, liaising with business units to gather and update information.
  • Assist with the logging, triage and progression of Data Subject Rights Requests, helping to ensure responses are provided within legal timelines.
  • Support the administration of Data Protection Impact Assessments, including gathering information from stakeholders and maintaining assessment records.
  • Support the onboarding of third parties in line with Investec policy.
  • Help maintain data protection policies, procedures, guidelines and training materials, escalating proposed changes to the line manager.
  • Support the delivery and coordination of data protection training and awareness activities across the Bank.
  • Assist with the logging and initial triage of reported data incidents, escalating potential breaches to the line manager promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of data protection matters to support reporting to Senior Management and the Board.
  • Undertake any other supporting duties relating to data protection as required by the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax.

Operational Tax Support

The role holder supports the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax with administrative and coordination activities relating to the Bank's FATCA, CRS and QI reporting obligations, and with new client take-on and existing client maintenance from an operational tax perspective.

Key responsibilities – Operational Tax Support

  • Support the timely collection of Trust and Corporate tax information and self-certification forms and help coordinate updates to the Bank's client static data.
  • Assist with FATCA and CRS classification checks and supporting documentation for the Operational Tax team and other areas of the Bank.
  • Support the preparation of FATCA and CRS returns for the Guernsey and Jersey businesses in advance of annual deadlines.
  • Assist in monitoring tax policy and regulatory developments and flag potential operational tax implications to the line manager.
  • Support the review of W-8 documentation in the TCSP space for trading in US source assets, under the guidance of the line manager.
  • Help create and maintain operational tax process and procedure documentation, supporting periodic review as required.
  • Assist with client communication regarding annual tax reporting.
  • Support the Head of Data Protection & Operational tax and key business stakeholders in the preparation of annual 1042 and 1042-S Qualified Intermediary returns.
  • Undertake any other supporting duties relating to operational tax as required by the Head of Data Protection & Operational Tax.

Key responsibilities – Operational Risk Support

  • Provide any support and assistance to the wider operational risk function as required by the Head of Operational Tax.

Core Skills & Knowledge:

Education

  • Working towards, or holding, relevant qualifications in data protection, tax, compliance, risk or financial services is advantageous, but not necessary.

Experience

  • Prior exposure to data protection, compliance, legal, operational tax or risk administration, preferably within financial services.
  • Exposure to supporting regulatory, risk management or tax reporting processes is advantageous.
  • Experience working with structured processes, checklists or controls in a regulated environment is beneficial.

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of data protection legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Basic understanding of QI, FATCA and CRS tax regimes and their reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with client structures and Customer Due Diligence requirements is useful.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office.
  • Proficiency in using AI-enabled productivity tools, such as Copilot, to improve efficiency, generate insight and support decision-making. Applies critical thinking and sound judgement when interpreting outputs, remains accountable for the quality and accuracy of their work.

Analytical Skills

  • Good attention to detail with the ability to follow processes accurately and identify anomalies or gaps.
  • Ability to organise and interpret information clearly to support the line manager's decision-making.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues across Relationship Teams, Operations, Compliance and Operational Risk.
  • Comfortable escalating issues and queries to the line manager in a timely and appropriate manner.

Personal Attributes

  • High ethical standards and integrity when handling sensitive information.
  • Proactive and willing to learn, with the ability to work well under supervision while building towards greater independence.
  • Strong personal organisation, planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Team player with strong collaboration skills, able to support distinct areas of responsibility within a single role.
