Deputy Head of Financial Crime - Transactions (11676)

Team Description:

Investec's Financial Crime Transactions' team forms part of the wider Financial Crime team that services Investec IBP.  The team is primarily responsible for the development of typologies, analysis of transactional data and technological development to protect IBP from being used by criminals to facilitate financial crime.

What would be your key responsibilities?

To build and maintain an effective Financial Crime Transactions' function for InvestecIBP, in particular to:

Transaction Models:

  • Development and maintain an effective and efficient Financial Crime transaction monitoring framework.
  • Development and maintain an effective payment screening framework.
  • Develop typologies/models to proactively prevent and detect financial crime.

Management Information and Data:

  • Understanding and analyse data sources within Investec and how these can be utilised in the prevention and detection of Financial Crime.
  • Maintain and develop analytical capabilities to enable timely monitoring of or detection of Financial Crime patterns and trends.
  • Maintain and develop Financial Crime management information to enable the monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Participate in the development of KPIs to monitor the effectiveness of the Financial Crime prevention and detection framework.

Technology Development:

  • Keep informed on new / changes in technologies and intelligence initiatives (e.g. AI) both within and external to Investec and assess how these could enhance the Financial Crime systems and controls, making recommendations where appropriate.
  • Input to the Financial Crime road map maintained by Financial Crime Regulation's team.
  • Work with Technology and Operations with regards to implementing new technologies that can enhance the Financial Crime framework.

General:

  • Develop, where relevant, a working relationship with other financial crime resources across the Investec group with a view to developing a cohesive approach to Financial Crime related technologies.
  • Ad hoc involvement and contribution into Financial Crime work streams / projects within the Group.
  • Facilitate team meetings and encourage an environment of open and honest feedback.
  • Complete annual performance development reviews for all direct reports.
  • Recruit, develop, train and manage the team, ensuring that the right team with the right skills and expertise are in place.
  • Participate as part of the Financial Crime senior management team to ensure that the whole team's objectives are achieved.

What are we looking for in you? 

  • Practical AML/CTF, ABC, Fraud and Sanctions experience with a UK regulated Financial Institution
  • Good project management skills
  • Strong data analytics experience
  • Good understanding of financial crime related typologies relating to both retail and corporate clients.
  • Knowledge of financial crime transaction monitoring and screening systems
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and with a variety of stakeholders
  • Relevant industry qualifications (such as the ICA Diploma level within Financial Crime)
  • To act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating our customers fairly
  • Coaching & Assessment
  • Strong work ethic and able to work on own initiative

    • FCA Handbook
    • UK Money Laundering Regulation
    • Criminal Justice Act
    • Terrorist Acts
    • Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA)
    • Joint Money Laundering Steering Group Guidance Notes

Any other attributes that would be helpful, but not essential for the role:

  • Ability to multi task and prioritise
  • Strong administrative skills
  • The candidate must be prepared to travel overseas when required.
