Design System Engineer (9266)

Investec's Group Client Experience Platforms team is looking for an experienced Design System Engineer with a background in building and maintaining design systems alongside designers within a product organisation. This role will help integrate the Design System into the Product codebase and ways of working, as well as providing best practice. The system will be used to power our customer facing products, as well as any new sub brands that fall under our ecosystems strategy. We ideally need someone who has worked in organisations of scale, with multiple design systems, and has experience consolidating these down.
What you will be doing
- Develop, improve and actively maintain design system components, ensuring we keep a high standard of coding across all platforms (building with the long-term vision in mind).
- Collaborate with the designers of the team to develop the design and functionality of our components.
- Convert design specs into technical specs, focusing on ways to make component APIs as easy as possible to understand for our consumers.
- Create and champion engineering standards and guidelines.
- Catch-up with system consumers on how the system is working for them.
- Lead implementation, adoption, and contributions for the new elements in the design system in the engineering space.
- Focus on accessibility so we have a high level of accessible components.
- Rigorously test components and maintain CICD pipelines.
- Communicate with consumers whenever there have been any code updates, and support consumers with any system related technical issues.
- Champion the design system across the wider engineering community, leading the standards for both coding and accessibility.
Experience and skills we are looking for
- Extensive UI and engineering experience.
- Experience of working with Design System Libraries (Figma + Storybook/Zeroheight).
- Experience of testing UI components.
- A command of best practices and in-depth experience with the creation and management of design systems.
- On the front edge of current thinking on design systems, their application and execution.
- Experience in working with Design Tokens. (desirable)
- Experience building for neurodiverse & disabilities.
- Have worked on large global products with distributed teams.
- Experience with localisation flexibility and multiple brands.
As part of our collaborative & agile culture, our working week is 4 days in the office and one day remote.
