Director Corporate Communications FTC (12596)

Investec is a distinctive Specialist Bank serving clients principally in the UK and South Africa. Our culture gives us our edge: we work hard to find colleagues who'll think out of the ordinary and we put them in environments where they'll flourish. We combine a flat structure with a focus on internal mobility. If you can bring an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to learn and collaborate to your work, this could be the boost your career deserves.

Corporate Communications Director

Overview Investec is seeking a Corporate Communications Director to lead and shape our communications strategy for the northern hemisphere. This leadership role will optimise perceptions of our clients, colleagues, shareholders and communities, and drive enhanced brand associations for both the Bank and Group priorities. The role collaborates closely with the wider Marketing Leadership team to deliver an integrated, impactful approach across audiences, with strong partnerships across Media Relations, Reputation Management, Business Marketing, Digital, Brand and Marketing Operations.

Role and responsibilities

  • Articulate the Investec story in partnership with stakeholders across Marketing and the wider business; create assets such as messaging houses to support effective dissemination.
  • Lead the team to craft and implement a communications strategy and plan aligned with the Bank's and Group's strategic objectives, in partnership with the broader communications and marketing function.
  • Internal communications across the northern hemisphere: provide strategic direction and oversee delivery, acting as “air traffic control” to maximise impact, with close coordination with SA for global alignment.
  • Enablement communications: define narratives for Sustainability, People & Organisation (P&O), Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity (BID), and Digital & Tech; develop briefs, run effective campaigns, and ensure these elements are integrated into the overall Investec narrative with clear prioritisation by channel and audience.
  • Continue to develop and engage the alumni community, growing the network and maintaining engagement.
  • Oversee delivery of One Investec events, including internal events, offsites, Executive Committee events and external corporate events (e.g., results, IMF).
  • Support One Investec collaboration and business marketing campaigns: educate and drive internal collaboration across the Bank and oversee internal aspects of client-facing content.
  • Measure outcomes of communications initiatives against quantitative and qualitative targets and budgets; identify success metrics and adapt plans accordingly.
  • Continuously challenge thinking on the most effective communication solutions, drawing inspiration from South Africa, external sources, the wider marketing team and the business to achieve optimal outcomes.

Team leadership

  • Represent the Communications team in UK and Global Marketing Leadership groups; contribute strategically to Investec's global marketing direction.
  • Own the communications budget, ensuring forecasting and expenditure are managed for optimal returns.
  • Lead the team to deliver annual plans, budgets and quarterly agile plans; drive co-creation and ensure fully integrated, optimised Marketing and Communications plans.
  • Collaborate with the SA communications team to identify best practices and maintain alignment on proactive and reactive communications.
  • Be a hands-on leader, closely connected to the team and focused on continuously improving individual and team performance.

Core skills, knowledge and experience Required

  • Strategic communications mindset with a track record of delivering results in a complex corporate environment.
  • Deep knowledge of corporate, investment and private banking.
  • Broad understanding of the full range of communications capabilities: corporate communications, internal communications, digital and content.
  • Ability to influence change internally and externally and to make sense of ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment.
  • Strong line-management capabilities; ability to build, nurture and lead a team while setting clear direction.
  • Proven experience building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and resolving conflicting situations.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a willingness to contribute to global and local marketing leadership.
  • Creative flair and the ability to influence internal understanding of the importance of communications and brand.
  • Solid understanding of financial markets and the ability to interpret their impact on communications strategy.
  • Skills in analytics and measurement to determine the best course of action to optimise communications.

Desirable

  • Experience in executive-level communications and investor/stakeholder engagement.
  • Background in digital and content strategy, events, and alumni/community programmes.
