What does the team do and what is the purpose of the role?

This is a senior role within the Group Tax function with responsibility for all employment tax related matters, interacting closely with the P&O function.  Group Tax is a London based team that provides support to the business on transactions as well as governance/oversight around all taxes within the PLC group.  Although predominantly a UK centric role engagement with other geographies will be part of the role.

What are the key responsibilities? 

The role has responsibility for ensuring all UK compliance and reporting (eg PSA, P11D, TAS, shares scheme reporting, Appendix 4/5 etc) in relation to employment taxes is undertaken on an accurate and timely basis.  Governance and oversight in respect of these taxes in other territories in which plc operates.  The role also has a significant advisory and enablement element, guiding the business and other relevant areas on tax changes and how they might affect operations.

  • Provide the business with employment related advice including tax on benefits, tax upon cessation of employment etc.
  • Advising on tax implications of secondments and transfers
  • Advising on the taxation of share awards to internationally mobile employees
  • Managing the Students secondment process including annual tax returns
  • Advising on the tax implications of new award structures (eg Carry) as necessary
  • Managing the SAO process as it is relevant to employment tax compliance issues;
  • Keeping up to date with legislation changes and implementing processes and procedure to remain compliant
  • Providing tax training to accountants and other stakeholders where required
  • Working with multiple stakeholders in P&O, Operations and Group Tax to implement and review internal processes and procedures as required
  • Assisting on Ad Hoc projects

Technical Knowledge

  • ATT or CTA qualified or equivalent
  • Proven expatriate/employment tax experience
