Description of role and key responsibilities
This recently opened position sits in the private equity accounting team within group finance, which is responsible for the accounting, financial control and reporting around the bank's private equity and fund investments in the UK, Australia and Hong Kong. The role offers exposure to senior levels of management and will involve interacting directly with desk heads to develop an in depth understanding of the investments, working on valuations, and reporting results to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders - including external auditors, regulatory capital, tax and other finance teams.
This role will typically include:
• Ensuring the integrity of the general ledger on a monthly basis, including posting journals and performing key reconciliations
• Working on and developing budget and forecast models for the business, and presenting these to different stakeholders.
• Performing valuations of investments, and preparing and reviewing valuation models, including NPV, PE multiples and fund NAVs.
• Reviewing various investment and legal documentation to ensure the correct accounting treatment is being applied to different investments.
• Periodic reporting to satisfy the needs of various internal and external stakeholders, including: daily flash reporting, monthly MI and audit packs.
• Reviewing the interface between the general ledger, Investec source systems and various reporting platforms
• Monitoring FX exposures and funding levels with central treasury.
• Preparing annual statutory accounts and working with external auditors
• Working on various change projects and responding to ad hoc queries,
• Supporting the accounting function of the US businesses.
• Preparing transactions and accounts for investment properties.
Core skills and knowledge
Technical knowledge/ education
• Qualified accountant with several years PQE experience
• Experience in financial services, particularly with private equity and principal investments, desirable.
Skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Personable and confident manner, including ability to interact with desk heads and senior management.
• Familiarity with JDE and Essbase would be beneficial
• Good understanding of IFRS
• Good excel working knowledge
• Team player
• Can-do approach
• Systematic approach in analysing and solving problems with good attention to detail
• Self motivated, enthusiastic and able to work without close supervision
• Willing to work in a dynamic environment
