Role: Investment Director

Location: St Peter Port, Guernsey

Role Purpose

To provide and manage high quality professional investment management services on a discretionary or non-discretionary basis under the terms of a discretionary or non-discretionary management agreement.

To develop new business opportunities and contribute towards business strategy, development and achievement of business targets.

To support, influence and promote company/group objectives.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide effective investment strategies for clients by reviewing, reporting on and monitoring market/portfolio performance
  • Manage both discretionary and advisory client portfolios
  • Maintain relationships with existing clients
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of investment products, professional expertise and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements/ procedures at all times
  • Seek opportunities to identify prospective target clients and generate new business through the promotion of company services in partnership with the local Investec Private Banks' Intermediaries Banking Team
  • Work closely with other Investment Director (s) to contribute towards the development of business strategy/policy/plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in all Investec Wealth & Investment geographies
  • To share client relationships with other members of the Investec Group to maximise relevancy to clients and to entrench Investec within the client relationship under the “One Bank” policy
  • Liaise with Wealth Structurers
  • Monitor administration (ie. valuations, income payments etc)
  • Make regular contact with agents
  • Deliver presentations

Allowable Investment Activities:

Investment Adviser Function – advising on investments other than a non-investment insurance contract and performing the appropriate duties within the customer trading function.

Investment Management Function - acting in the capacity of an investment manager and performing functions within the investment adviser function and the customer trading function.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A detailed understanding of different investment asset classes and products – particularly direct equity investment, as well as non-traditional/alternatives including the role of asset allocation in portfolio management
  • Client relationship skills
  • Business development/marketing/networking skills
  • Knowledge of local market
  • Be able to identify any relevant material business risks.
  • Understanding and implementation of relevant business procedures e.g. internal reporting line and issue escalation, attendance and contribution at Investment Proposal Forum, Product Committee, team meetings, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of internal operating and compliance procedures at all times e.g. money laundering regulations

Qualifications Required

One of the following qualifications are essential:-

FCA RDR Compliant Qualification/s e.g. CISI IAD (Level 4), or CISI PCIAM (Level 6) with appropriate gap fill, or CISI Diploma (Level 6/7), or CISI Masters (Level 7), or IMC (plus Securities Paper of IAD)

A number of years relevant experience in an equivalent role
