Description of role

  • To make markets, provide liquidity and 'best execute' client orders in listed equities.
  • Proactively communicate with clients and all internal departments of IIBS, providing them 'key' market information and idea generation.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure that trading is at all times within agreed limits set by dealer mandates
  • Best execution as per MiFid is s given when executing client orders.
  • Proactive management of risk exposures (both pre-emptive and resultant positions)
  • Liaise with colleagues in Investec equities (primarily sales trading team) to identify and provide service to active buyers and sellers of stock
  • Issue I0I's as appropriate to attract business and proactively manage both pre-emptive and resultant positions.
  • Liaise with Analysts, Sales and Specialist Sales to develop individual sectors profile both internally and externally.
  • Deliver agreed market shares in corporate and target corporate shares.
  • Assist equities to achieve budgeted revenue in secondary market commissions and trading.
  • Make competitive and consistent prices in identified equities, whilst at the same time understanding the financial implications for both the clients and the Listed Client Group (LCG).
  • Execute orders via Fidessa, making full use of new technologies as and when they are added to the trading platform
  • Understand and trade in identified futures contracts (for hedging purposes)
  • Understand internal reporting lines and who must be referred to in the event of a query/problem and when such a referral is desirable/essential
  • Oversee the algorithmic trading conducted by IBP through 3rd party brokers including conducting of real time monitoring of executions to identify disorderly trading and, as relevant, operate the 'kill switch' functionality to cancel all unexecuted orders submitted to trading venues in the event of malfunctioning algorithms, market instability or other emergency scenarios.

Core Skills and Knowledge

  • Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role (compulsory) e.g. an in depth understanding of the Risk Parameters as applied by central risk.
  • Coaching & Assessment (compulsory for Line Managers and other Supervisors)

    • Knowledge and awareness of the macro-economic environment

    • Current stock/sector knowledge
  • Technical knowledge
    • An up to date knowledge of all trading systems currently used by the team including - Fidessa, Reuters, Bloomberg, etc
  • Demonstrated Performance / Commerciality
    • Implement appropriate and profitable trading/hedging strategies.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge relating to algorithmic trading including
  • The relevant trading systems and algorithms;
  • The monitoring and testing of such systems and algorithms; and
  • The trading strategies that Securities employs through its algorithmic trading systems.
