Internal (within Organisation)

  • All departments within IBCI, and;
  • Investec Group, specifically:
    • Investec Private Bank, London (‘IBP');
    • Credit Committee Members of IBP;
    • Real Estate Team within IBP;
    • Rathbones International (‘RIMI').

External (Outside organisation):

Financial service networks across 3 core jurisdictions including property professionals and developers, professional advisors, Trust providers, Family Offices, wealth planners, regulators, government agencies, brokers and other corporate service providers

Description of role and key responsibilities:

Overview:

A key strategic objective of IBCI is to originate and maintain appropriate and well-structured lending business from its offshore jurisdictions of Guernsey, Jersey, Switzerland and Isle of Man both from our direct client relationships with HNW individuals, Family offices, professionals, property professional and our Financial intermediaries.

This role has responsibility, in conjunction with the wider lending Team (the ‘Team'), for developing its strategic lending direction together with responsibility for the business development and relationship management initiatives and credit stewardship activities for this core growth sector of IBCI.  Along with the Team, this role will critically assess the strategic performance of IBCI's lending proposition, addressing as necessary and ensuring that IBCI maintains a competitive advantage in the market, is achieving its strategic objectives and continues to operate within IBCI's credit and AML/CFT risk appetite.

The role is accountable for participating in the Team's structured lending proposition and the delivery of such against agreed targets.  This may include, but not limited to, structured real estate finance, mortgages, gearing against investment portfolios and balance sheet finance.

Partnering with the Team, the role will create structured client engagement programmes with the aim of, inter alia, sourcing new lending business and the management thereof.

The role will also provide a degree of support and, where appropriate, mentoring in relation to upskilling the wider team's lending capabilities.

 Along with the above strategic input, more detailed responsibilities include:

  • The consideration and processing, as appropriate, of new lending enquiries from target market clients including the issuing of indicative terms;
  • Effectively assessing risk and pricing lending opportunities appropriately;
  • Preparing of credit applications and presentation of proposals to the relevant internal fora;
  • Work with IBCI's Credit Lending Services Team in the preparation of necessary documentation, as required;
  • Management and credit stewardship of existing lending transactions, ensuring that all drawn loans operate in accordance IBCI's policies and procedures and stipulations detailed within the Credit Committee minute;
  • Identify and effect business referrals to other divisions within IBCI and the wider Investec Group.

  • The job holder must have a sound understanding of the regulatory and legal environment relevant to the job, and to take into account and follow all applicable internal compliance considerations, including all appropriate processes, policies and process 

Core Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, being able to inform and negotiate both orally and in writing;

  • Team player with ability to build strong relationships, both internally and externally;
  • Personal organisation and planning skills with proven ability to time manage;
  • A proven track record in sales, business development and relationship management;
  • Self motivated, driven and goal orientated with the ability to self-initiate follow-up sales activity;
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge in risk assessing and structuring of lending propositions in order to create lending solutions to satisfy:
    • The clients' requirements, and;
    • The IBP and IBCI Credit Committees, in line with its current risk appetite and Credit policy guidelines.
  • Strong credit management and stewardship skills;
  • Awareness of appropriate internal reporting processes, policies and procedures;
  • A strong understanding of the UK real estate market, both residential and commercial;
  • A good understanding of treasury and capital markets, and overview of the investment markets;
  • Exposure to management of regulatory risk in a large financial institution;
  • A detailed knowledge of the operations of our organisation and the environment (e.g. regulatory, physical) in which it operates;
  • A sound understanding of the IBCI's account opening procedures, its wider banking product suite and service delivery.
