Marketing Lead, Investment Banking

As the Marketing Lead for Investment Banking, you will lead the design of highly effective and creative marketing solutions to drive growth. Backed by deep investment bank marketing experience and a keen interest in data-driven marketing and behavioural science, you're a creative, highly self-motivated expert marketer with a passion for thinking in out of the ordinary ways and a determination to deliver results that build Investec's brand and generate revenue opportunities.

What will you be doing?

This role will lead marketing for Investec's Investment Banking offering in the northern hemisphere, covering all aspects of marketing for:

  • the corporate broking, public M&A including IPO, equities sales, trading & research for listed companies' clients;
  • the funds solutions, private M&A and fundraising, debt funds, alternative investment manager, direct lending and full product coverage for private equity and portfolio clients;
  • the energy & infrastructure clients;
  • all of Investec's target clients in Europe and the United States; and
  • articulating Investec's full corporate and personal proposition relevant to audiences in private equity, C-suites of listed companies and institutional investors.

  • Lead responsibility for all marketing activity for the Investment Banking business through the design of creative, targeted and high-impact annual marketing strategies, campaign plans and reactive situational marketing plans that reach marketing objectives and deliver key results aligned to revenue growth targets
  • Synthesise client group and business desk strategies and source insight on client and prospect audiences to build, challenge and maintain a deep understanding of growth opportunities, and apply these to your marketing strategies for maximum impact on acquisition, retention and awareness targets
  • Maintain a comprehensive view of relevant economic conditions, political changes and competitor sets to optimise marketing strategies as conditions morph
  • Build a deep understanding of Investec's brand, people and product attributes by delivering the best of our brand to current and future clients, protecting our reputation and increasing affinity to our brand to foster sustainable revenue growth
  • Be a valued partner to business stakeholders, contributing to leadership, product and planning decisions, ensuring alignment between marketing and business priorities and support for all marketing activity
  • Lead and contribute to selected strategies that boost Investec plc's impact on audiences, including your targets and those of other desks
  • Lead, inspire and develop the Campaign Managers in your team to ensure maximum impact of the campaigns you've designed, providing clear and efficient direction while leveraging and enhancing their strengths
  • Pro-actively collaborate with your peers to consistently boost marketing's impact on Investec's growth goals and identify ways to streamline and simplify the marketing message for clients and prospects
  • Be fully responsible for the return on the marketing budget for the Investment Banking businesses and develop strong business cases for the introduction of new marketing technology, agency solutions or resource as is beneficial for the efficient delivery of marketing solutions
  • Ensure you maintain a comprehensive and constantly growing knowledge of channels, tools and marketing strategies by drawing on the expertise of specialist channels from colleagues across geographies and within agencies to reach your objectives
  • Be accountable for generating regular and campaign-specific reporting, leveraging in-house CRM and other data and analytics expertise alongside industry benchmarking, to continuously optimise marketing activity and make sense of your campaign results, ensuring business stakeholders and marketing leadership is fully aware of strategy, impact and risks

What are we looking for?

  • Strong, creative and highly developed strategic marketing skills with significant experience of the financial services sector, including working in investment banking
  • Experience using market insights, business results, CRM data and client analytics to take a data-driven approach to determine the most effective marketing solutions
  • An expert practitioner adept at identifying, leading and delivering results-driven marketing campaigns
  • Strong team leadership skills with a keen interest in developing rewarding careers for people within the Investec culture, the ability to coach and nurture talent and provide valuable feedback to fuel individual and team performance
  • Deep understanding and interest in the economic landscape, target clients and products of Investment Banking, the financial levers that matter most to your desks and segments and the motivators of change for these people
  • Proven ability to generate fresh marketing solutions for multiple, and at times, competing business priorities concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable with people at all levels of experience and able to succinctly articulate a view and persuade colleagues
  • Strong passion for working hard and fast in a constantly evolving financial services market within a company determined to succeed in a highly competitive landscape
  • Impeccable planning and prioritisation skills with a desire to be accountable for the results and return on investment from your budget
  • Honed ability to build strong business cases that influence, educate and persuade senior business and marketing stakeholders, with experience negotiating and resolving challenging relationships
  • A keen interest in generative AI, productivity tools and marketing technology that increase impact and decrease drag to marketing
  • High level of professional integrity, initiative, creativity, tenacity and self-awareness
  • A highly trusted colleague with a keen commitment to collaborate with and learn from experts in specialist areas and agencies to generate maximum benefit
  • Well balanced EQ and IQ, complemented by excellent judgement and diplomatic assertiveness
  • Ability to adapt to external and/or internal change and lead others with compassion and pragmatism to focus during challenging periods
  • Curiosity to find improved solutions and unseen uncover opportunities to drive growth

This role will have limited amount of domestic and international travel.
