Team description
The Operations Team Lead for IGSI will play a pivotal role in local leadership and the development of the IGSI operations teams, collaborating closely with UK team leaders. This position will involve working in tandem with various operations teams within IGSI to enhance performance through a comprehensive understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and challenges. As a key member of the IGSI Leadership Team, the Operations Team Lead will actively contribute to achieving our strategic objectives.
Description of role and key responsibilities
The Operations Team Lead will be responsible for managing the Operations teams in IGSI ensuring connectivity with the UK team leaders to enable high performance and delivery across the different areas by building a positive working environment. This role is a key integrator to ensure alignment and understanding of the Bank strategic objectives and will ensure connectivity between the teams.
Leadership
- Day to day on the ground responsibility for overseeing and managing the performance of the IGSI offshore team that serves as an extension of a UK Operations team across different functions.
- Ensuring there is strategic alignment of each IGSI Operations team to the relevant IBP Operations team.
- Drive efficiency and improvements in processes run by each team and across teams in alignment with the UK based teams.
- Build appropriate MI to communicate IGSI Operations productivity to relevant IBP Operations leads and IBP COO.
- Stay up to date with UK-specific regulations and compliance requirements that may impact offshore operations.
- Working with the UK Operations Leaders and the IBP Operational resilience team to build and maintain plans to ensure IBP Operations remains resilient under severe but plausible IGSI scenarios.
- Creating a team environment for the IGSI Operations community where people can thrive and cross skill, that reduces silos and creates opportunities for learning.
- Build an environment that is fair, supportive and inspiring and people have a good understanding of expectations as a team member.
- Act as a point of escalation for any issues or challenges faced by the offshore team, working closely with stakeholders to resolve.
- Communication and coordination of town hall meetings.
- Contribute to the learning and development of Operations IGSI to enhance and develop their skills and capabilities.
- Provide regular feedback on how the UK based (and if relevant South African based) Operations team can work even more effectively together with the IGSI Operations teams.
- Represent the Offshore functions at risk & governance forums and communicate results back to the functions as required
- Review and understand the operational budget for the IGSI Operations Teams
- Time Zone Management
Core skills and knowledge
- Proven experience in a similar Operations management role (ideally across multiple jurisdictions).
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to motivate, create an environment for high performance
- Ability to work under pressure and to deliver within time frames, managing and resolving different, and sometimes conflicting priorities.
- Passionate about people and development
- Wide operational process understanding across Investment banking and Lending.
- Ability to coach and influence
- Financial industry background
- A highly effective communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
- Ability to effectively build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels and from different departments and functions.
