Payments Specialist

The Central Payment Operations (CPO) team are designed to focus on specialist functions relating to payments. The team support 11 core functions within Central Services, of which 3 are critical regulatory functions, namely Funds Transfer Regulation (FTR) Monitoring, 1st level sanction screening and PRA Reporting. Change management is also a key part of what we do, and managing internal and external relationships is essential. We're a small team, with big ambitions, we pride ourselves on our expertise and our ability to adapt at short notice.  

What will you be doing?

FTR Monitoring  

  • Run monthly reports from SWIFT PDQ (Payments Data Quality) and import associated MT103's
  • Analyse reports for FTR compliance
  • For outbound send ‘true hits' and ‘best practise items' emails to the applicable Business Units (BUs) for action. Support BUs in achieving timely closure of active items.
  • For inbound send ‘true hit' MT199s to the applicable sending bank for action in accordance with the policy.
  • Internally escalate via regular Quality Circle meetings any outbound BU's or inbound banks that have breached FTR policy and/or BU SLA
  • Manage inbound queries received from third party banks in respect to our outbound payments that they deem to be non FTAF 16 / FTR compliant.

1st Level Sanction Screening

  • Provide support to the Financial Crime Team in regards to 1st Level Sanction screening (including cheque approvals):
  • Build and apply knowledge of sanctions screening analysis e.g. report any screening anomalies, system issues, etc.
  • Assist in the analysis of MI to identify opportunities to enhance 1st level screening match verification.
  • Support any change management activities. For example, support UAT testing of any 1st level sanction screening process changes.
  • Support Financial Crime with the maintenance of their operating procedures and other related documentation
  • Provide regular cross-training to CPO peers e.g. process change, etc.

Beneficiary (Settlement Delivery Instruction) SDI Management

  • Provide support to multiple internal BUs in regards to beneficiary SDI verification.
  • Build and apply knowledge of the beneficiary SDI verification process e.g. data elements that should be selected, thorough knowledge of processes, payment formatting etc.
  • Assist in the analysis of MI to identify opportunities to enhance beneficiary SDI verification
  • Prepare for and lead monthly quality circle discussions with internal business units.

Support other CPO core functions, such as:

  • RMA Monitoring
  • Intraday Liquidity Reporting
  • PSD2 Money Remittance (MR) Charging Deduction Matrix Maintenance.
  • Payment Investigations (including the Faster Payment Credit Payment Recovery (CPR) process).
  • Management of internal and external bank reference data

What do we look for?

  • Experience of working in a transactional back-office payments operation.
  • Experience of writing and implementing operational procedures.
  • Experience of using MS Excel and analysing data.
  • Able to coordinate / lead internal meeting, and occasionally external meetings.
  • Ability to learn quickly; including the FATF Recommendation 16 and Wire Transfer Regulation 2 and JMLSG controls and best practise regarding domestic and international payments.
  • A basic understanding of Financial Crime within the Banking industry.
  • Knowledge of payment types and / or making payments.
  • Understanding of SWIFT standards, message types and formatting for payments.
  • Proactive work and knowledge ethic.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
