People Consultant / Regional Lead (12886)

Team description:

Investec was founded 51 years ago in South Africa and now has c.7,900 employees based across a number of offices globally. We have offices in India, Ireland, Channel Islands, New York, and across mainland Europe. Our People Consultants are essential for delivering the Investec Employee Value Proposition, through the employee lifecycle in each of our jurisdictions whilst maintaining close ties with our parent offices in London and South Africa.

Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Limited (‘IBCI') was founded in Guernsey 26 years ago and retains its head office and operations centre within Guernsey, with a branch in Jersey and a representative office in the Isle of Man. IBCI has 120 employees across the Crown Dependencies, with c. 100 of these based in Guernsey. IBCI is a subsidiary of Investec Bank plc and retains its own local board of directors.


Role Profile: People Consultant / Regional Lead 

Description of role and key responsibilities:

The People Consultant/ Regional Lead role for IBCI will work to ensure a consistent Investec employee experience for our employees. The Regional Lead will be responsible for leveraging the offerings of specialist teams within People & Organisation (‘P&O') e.g. Reward, Learning, Benefits, Organisational Development etc and working to hone these for the Crown Dependencies, for which they will have responsibility for all IBCI employees across all three offices. They will be fluent in Investec culture and employee value proposition and work for this to be reflected in each element of the employee life cycle. They will also be responsible for sharing feedback about how the present adapted IBCI offering can integrate and leverage, ensuring consistency where suitable and local nuance where not.  

The successful incumbent for this role will be a true generalist who can build trusted relationships with all employees and can act as an ambassador for the Company, a partner for the CEO and regional leadership team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work with the IBCI CEO and Leadership Team to diagnose current people and organisation needs and to then action those in partnership with London based specialist teams as needed.
  • To have a strong knowledge of local (Crown Dependencies) employment law and its practical application. First port of call for advice and pragmatic management of all employee relations matters. To build trusted relationships with employees in the office and to maintain confidentiality as required.
  • Covering all areas of the employee lifecycle from attraction, selection and onboarding to exits
  • To work with the IBCI CEO to help create a high performing environment within the office on any employee engagement activities
  • In partnership with the employee led BID groups within London, leverage and build upon these locally, creating opportunities for employees.
  • To undertake the above in a way which is aligned to Investec's culture and values.

  • To act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating our customers fairly;
  • Regulatory knowledge as applicable to role;
  • Coaching and assessment (compulsory for managers and supervisors);
  • Experienced People/HR Consultant with a demonstrable track record in managing employee matters
  • Holding a good financial understanding to work with the IBCI CEO to guide and oversee the annual salary and bonus process, recognising salary surveys, overseeing payroll and working with audit;
  • Experience in partnering and influencing leaders and teams
  • Strong employee relations and mediation experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of local employment law: a demonstrable track record of practical, pragmatic application and advice on employee relations matters.

Mandatory professional qualifications and exams (required for the role):

We are looking for individuals who are qualified in HR, for example, CIPD, MA or equivalent in HR and / or Organisation Psychology would be ideal.  Likewise, a coaching qualification or experience would also be an advantage.
