Role: Platform Engineer

Location: London

Team Description

Work closely with technical teams, including system engineers, database administrators, network staff and particularly application support and software development engineers to provide support for the banks applications; this will include installation, release and configuration management, performance monitoring and tuning and quality management

Description of role and key responsibilities

The role places a high emphasis on automation and scripting, particularly the practice of developing “infrastructure as code”, that is, treating the infrastructure stack as software, and using software development methodologies such as scripting in a first-class language, source and revision control, image and artefact management, continuous integration, and delivery, as well as modern delivery and deployment platforms including cloud, container, on-premises and physical systems.

A key part of the role is the ability to design and write automation, infrastructure, and application configuration scripts from scratch, create repeatable, auditable code and configurations to manage and deploy applications and write custom test and checks during that process, to monitor the application to ensure availability and quality during the release process.

Core skills and knowledge

Technical Skills (Required)

  • Application support experience and the ability to troubleshoot through the technology stack (Network, OS, Database , Application)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure and its toolset (Boards, Pipelines, Repos, Test Plans, and Artifacts)
  • Windows or Linux (ideally Red Hat) system administration experience
  • Good scripting ability across various languages (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, .Net), programming languages (advantageous) NodeJS, C#
  • Excellent knowledge of configuration management and infrastructure as code using (Azure & Azure DevOps (YAML, JSON, BICEP) Docker, Puppet, Terraform, Azure Resource Manager)
  • Experience of using and managing source control systems. (git)
  • Configuration Management(Pipelines, terraform, Testplans, Artifacts)
  • Experience of supporting application delivery pipelines (Azure DevOps) and associated tools, Gitlab, Jenkins
  • Experience of working directly with Development or Product teams.
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL

Technical Skills (Advantageous)

  • Knowledge of financial markets and industry financial reporting standard.
  • RHCE, MCSE, Azure Certified(essential), AWS Certified(bonus), Puppet certified
  • Programming ability in a high level language.
