What is the purpose of the role?    

The Technical Analyst within the Private Client business plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining robust analytical models to support lending decisions, risk management, and returns optimization. This role requires a strong understanding of financial modelling, affordability analysis, cash flow modelling, credit scoring, ROE modelling, and other relevant analytical techniques. The Technical Analyst collaborates with stakeholders across the business, including finance, risk, group modellers, and product teams, to ensure alignment between technical elements and business objectives.

What are the main responsibilities of the role?

•    Model Development and Maintenance:

Develop, maintain, and review accurate and robust analytical models to support lending decisions, risk management, and returns optimization. This includes affordability modelling, cash flow modelling, financial modelling, credit scoring modelling, ROE modelling, prepayment risk modelling, and IRB modelling. Regularly update and enhance existing models to improve accuracy, simplicity, and efficiency.

•    Pricing Analysis:

Assist in monitoring and updating pricing across the offering, combining drivers such as FTP, funding spread, and market swap rates to achieve targeted ROE hurdle rates. Conduct regular market analysis on competitor pricing and respond to pricing queries from Bankers.

•    Risk Management:

Collaborate with stakeholders to manage economic and interest rate risk within the Private Client business. This includes enhancing pipeline management, prepayment assumptions, and other risk factors related to the product offering. Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in risk management within the Private Banking sector.

•    Data Analysis and Insights:

Conduct in-depth analysis of data and market trends to identify patterns, insights, and opportunities for improvement in the technical aspects of the Private Client business. Provide actionable recommendations based on data-driven insights.

•    Model Performance Evaluation:

Monitor and evaluate the performance of existing models, identifying areas for enhancement and proposing changes to improve accuracy and efficiency. Conduct regular reviews of models to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

•    Collaboration and Stakeholder Support:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, risk, and product teams, to understand requirements and ensure effective implementation and utilization of models. Provide technical expertise and support to stakeholders involved in the Private Banking business.

•    Industry Knowledge and Training:

Stay updated with industry regulations, best practices, and emerging trends in technical modelling within the Private Banking sector. Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of stakeholders involved in the Private Banking business.

•    Data Management:

Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the availability of modelled data required for modelling purposes. Ensure data integrity and accuracy in model inputs and outputs.

By effectively fulfilling these responsibilities, the Technical Analyst contributes to the overall success of the Private Client business by providing robust analytical models, data-driven insights, and technical expertise to support lending decisions, risk management, and returns optimization.

What core skills and knowledge are we looking for?   

•    Strong technical expertise in financial modelling
•    In-depth knowledge of the Private Banking sector in the UK, including lending for owner-occupied homes, buy-to-let properties, and commercial property lending.
•    Proficiency in statistical analysis and modelling techniques, including regression analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and stress testing.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse complex data sets, identify patterns, and derive meaningful insights.
•    Good knowledge of relevant software tools and programming languages used in financial modelling, such as Excel, Python, R, or SAS.
•    Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in the Private Banking sector.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders and effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
•    Strong attention to detail and accuracy to ensure the reliability and integrity of models and calculations.
•    Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
•    Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with industry trends and enhance technical skills and knowledge.
