We are currently looking for qualified lawyer PQE 7 years to join a successful and high performing team.
What do we do?
Our business is split in three distinct lending teams (i) Corporate lending, who lend to corporate borrowers on a bilateral or club basis (ii) Private Client lending, who lend to a more traditional real estate client base including HNW individuals and Family Offices on a bilateral basis (iii) Distribution, incorporating an origination to distribution platform with a specific remit of originating larger ticket deals with a view to syndication.
The Real Estate team aims to assist established property entrepreneurs and businesses, both HNW and corporates/funds, in wealth creation through their property activities. It provides senior debt development and investment funding solutions primarily across residential, commercial, mixed-use, logistics and student accommodation sectors.
What are the main responsibilities?
• Providing expert and timely advice in relation to law and regulation relating primarily to real estate finance. • Understanding and balancing the commercial drivers and risk appetite of the business against laws and regulations.• Managing and coordinating the provision and delivery of external legal advice to ensure the timely negotiation, execution of transactions to include ensuring that external advisers are appropriately appointed and briefed throughout the transaction;• Providing ad hoc legal advice on legal matters arising; • Assisting with the drafting and maintenance of standard house style documentation for the team and external counsel in conjunction with the GC, Head of Legal;• Actively liaising with your colleagues in Lending and other stakeholders throughout the Bank where applicable to your role on legal risk matters affecting the banks environment;• The implementation of appropriate segregation of duties so that legal documentation is reviewed and executed with the appropriate level of independence from the persons involved in proposing or promoting the transaction;• Driving efficiencies in performance and a business enablement service in the resolution of legal and regulatory issues;• Actively liaising with the GC and/or Bank's credit decision and analysis forums and credit monitoring and reporting teams to ensure that all transactions are executed within the relevant credit authority; and• Keeping abreast of developments and any changes in the nature and extent of the Banks activities as applicable to your role from time to time.You will be expected to gain a good understanding of the business by working closely with your colleagues in IBP Legal, and the business in order to provide proactive legal support.
What skills and qualifications do we require you to have?
• Qualified real estate finance lawyer, c 7+ years' PQE gained in a leading UK law firm. In house experience a plus.• Experience of syndicated/club lending and close familiarity with relevant LMA documentation• General lending experience • Commercially minded - understand and take into account wider business considerations in order to see ‘the big picture'. • Ability to give practical, clear and concise commercial advice.• Ability to receive constructive criticism and feedback, and use this to improve skills/practice/behaviours. • A practical approach and the ability to make clear and concise decisions.• Excellent working and practical commercial and technical knowledge of all legal documentation applicable to the business areas together with the applicable law and regulation relating to the provision of banking and financial services.• Attention to detail.• Business enabler and ‘can do attitude'.
