Role: Relationship Manager / Originator, Corporate and Family Office

Team Description

  • The team provides expertise in real estate financing across the commercial, residential, development and investment spaces. Additionally, the team also provides corporate financing to support growth and M&A ambitions within our client base and a familiarity with corporate lending will be
  • The role requires the holder to have a strong network in the offshore professional, family office and offshore trust and corporate market, with a passion for being a strategic partner to underlying clients and trustees as they finance predominantly real estate
  • The role holder will be part of an enthusiastic and committed team delivering the bank's growth strategy in providing predominantly real estate finance in the family office and offshore trust and corporate service provider (‘TCSP')

Description of role and key responsibilities

This role is to originate predominantly property loans in the residential and commercial real estate markets within the UK from an offshore Family Office and Trust and Corporate client base.

The role will primarily involve the following:

Responsibility for lending to Family Office clients and providing real estate financing to clients structured through offshore trusts / corporate directorships;

  • The role covers the origination and maintenance of lending facilities as well as providing a full product offering in banking, treasury and wealth management via colleagues;
  • Responsibility for delivering to the team's lending and income targets. Target levels of new business generation to be agreed with your line manager;
  • Plan and initiate contact with key clients and prospects at all levels;
  • Detailed analysis of new deals, including scrutinising customers, detailed financial analysis and property due diligence;
  • Structure new opportunities – pricing, leverage, covenants, security etc. and lead negotiations between Borrower and Bank;
  • Review or prepare credit applications alongside a supporting team member, and present transactions to Real Estate Deal Forum and the Bank's Credit Committee;
  • Overview, with the IBCI Credit and Lending Services Team, the post-credit due diligence process, including review of legal documentation in line with the Credit Committee minute, ensuring all conditions precedent and any special conditions are documented. Assessment of valuation reports and QS reports;
  • Oversight of each deal through to repayment ensuring all conditions imposed are complied with throughout. Be responsible for on-time annual reviews and contractual expiries;
  • Manage, support, mentor and coach direct reports, of which initially there will be one as a supporting relationship manager. Responsible for junior member of the team's further training, career progression and development;
  • Ensure operational and relationship excellence, both internally and with clients;
  • Identify and effect business referrals to other divisions within IBCI and the wider Investec Group;
  • To act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating customers fairly (compulsory);
  • To ensure that business is aligned to the Investec values.
  • Effective management of the existing Family Office loan book;
  • Deliver an agreed lending business development growth target;
  • Generation of business referrals to other business within IBCI and the wider Investec Group.

Core skills and knowledge

  • Excellent networking and client relationship skills;
  • Track record of originating commercial and residential real estate debt within the UK market across multiple asset classes, with development lending experience;
  • The applicant to already have relationships with family offices, the Guernsey trust and corporate service provider market and third party advisors within the UK real estate market;
  • Strong credit and documentation knowledge (detailed term sheets, LMA documentation );
  • Ability to review and analyse business plans, including an ability to evaluate covenant strength and strong cash flow understanding;
  • Self motivated with a need for excellence and burning drive for results;
  • Good communicator (written and verbal) and ability to influence, negotiate and close deals as well as work within tight deadlines;
  • Team player with ability to build relationships, both internally and externally;
  • Strong presentation skills - externally and internally, including credit
  • Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role (compulsory).
