Senior Accountant - Financial reporting (11056)

This role is in the financial reporting team, which has principle responsibility for all external reporting and technical accounting. We are looking to expand the capacity and skills needed to enable delivery of the increasingly complex demands of financial reporting from accounting standard setters, regulators and other stakeholders.
The key contacts for the role will be diverse and will include the external auditors, business areas and other finance teams.
To be a senior member of the team responsible for the satisfying the statutory financial reporting requirements of the group – specifically covering the consolidated reporting for Investec plc and Investec Bank plc. This will typically include:
• Preparing/reviewing the group annual statutory accounts and working with external auditors
• Preparation of key disclosure notes, including with respect to financial instruments
• Liaison with Investor Relations, risk and other finance teams
• Key contract and driver of the external audit process
• Periodic reporting to satisfy the needs of a variety of internal and external customers including the regulators
• Assisting in preparing the quarterly financial returns to the regulators, including investigating and documenting variances
• Develop and deliver technical training sessions
• Participation in projects to drive implementation of new accounting standards and financial reporting requirements and continue the drive for increased automation in production of the financial statements
• Ensuring the integrity of the group's general ledger on a monthly basis by reviewing and challenging the ledger entries
• Responding to ad hoc requests
• Involvement in improvement and ad hoc projects
Technical skills and knowledge
• Qualified accountant with in-depth knowledge and experience of the below areas (minimum of 3 years relevant experience preferred); first time passes preferable
• Financial services experience
• Technical understanding of IFRS
• Experience of consolidations
• Experience of providing training and knowledge sharing
• Familiarity with the JDE and Essbase would be beneficial
• Systematic approach in analysing and solving problems with good attention to detail
• Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role (compulsory)

• Team player with experience of leading teams/projects
• Personable and confident manner
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Good Excel working knowledge
