Senior Analytics Analyst (3585)

We are looking for an experienced analyst to join the Specialist Bank Analytics team. The Analytics team is going through a transformational change from using on premise database and applications to using cloud based technologies to perform our analytical roles. We are looking for a senior specialist who can use their experience and knowledge to support and guide the team through this technological change. The right candidates will have extensive experience in tools such as Data bricks, Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Power BI, SQL, Python and R to name a few. The candidate will enjoy being hands on when producing reports and analysis for our stakeholders. The candidate will support and mentor junior members of the team to grow their knowledge and technical expertise.

What you'll do

The key responsibility is building processes that extract, manipulate and visualise data. This includes:

  • Endeavour to develop a deep understanding of each business area worked with and using this knowledge suggest ways to reduce cost and/or increase revenue-using insights based on analytics.
  • Engage revenue generating and business enabling teams within the bank to understand their reporting and analytics requirements. Take these requirements and convert them into an output for the business.
  • Follow the teams change control process to deploy and update outputs into production.
  • Actively monitor failed reports, and investigate and apply appropriate fixes to the reports if they do not run.
  • Actively monitor the usage of outputs created and engage with stakeholders that are not using outputs. Offline outputs not used.
  • Migrate existing analytics processes using Microsoft products in the cloud and use cloud based Microsoft tools to build new outputs where possible.
  • Work closely with data engineering to source all data from the “one data platform” (ODP). Identify any sources not currently in ODP and work with engineering to include them.
  • Mentor and coach other members of the team.

Additional tasks include:

  • Support Data Governance by identifying and flagging data errors, data rules and improved data process needed to ensure we have a reliable and accurate data.
  • Working with Data science to identify, build and then implement data science and analytics based insights that drive revenue or cost savings.
  • Build cash flow models to help teams better understand the risk and returns of a project or plan.

About you!

Technical knowledge

  • Experience in Cloud-based Microsoft tools for example Data bricks, Data factory, Synapse analytics, and Analysis services.
  • Proficient in SQL and any other languages needed to extract data.
  • Proficient in data visualisation tools. Such as Power BI and Omniscope.
  • Excellent Excel knowledge.
  • Proficient in Python (and R).


  • Exceptionally numerate and able to interpret information, to spot trends, “tell a story” back to the business.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Project Management
  • Willingness to learn and ability to pick up new skills and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to design engaging and interactive outputs around data.
  • Market Knowledge: sound awareness of the market/economic landscape and knowledge of how the business functions.
