Senior Product Designer (6736)

Investec is a distinctive Specialist Bank serving clients principally in the UK and South Africa. Our culture gives us our edge: we work hard to find colleagues who'll think out of the ordinary and we put them in environments where they'll flourish. We combine a flat structure with a focus on internal mobility. If you can bring an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to learn and collaborate to your work, this could be the boost your career deserves.

Embedded in our culture is a sense of belonging and inclusion. This creates an environment in which everyone is free to be themselves which helps to drive innovation, creativity and ultimately business performance. At Investec we want everyone to find it easy to be themselves, and to feel they belong. It's a responsibility we all share and is integral to our purpose and values as an organisation.

Research shows that some candidates can be reluctant to apply to a role unless they meet all the criteria. We pride ourselves on our entrepreneurial spirit here and welcome you to do the same – if the role excites you, please don't let our person specification hold you back. Get in touch!

Description of role and key responsibilities:

As a product designer at Investec, you'll be part of a small but growing design community where you'll have a significant impact on the way we approach our work, and the freedom to shape your role within our team.

On the one hand, you'll be advocating for intelligent, seamless client experiences. On the other, you'll own the end-to-end design process for multiple areas across both our business and retail banking platforms.

You'll be part of our Client Digital Experience team – a few things about us:

  • Our core design team is currently growing, with three UX designers, two UI designers, a service designer and a UX writer on staff at the moment
  • The wider team is made up of about 60 people
  • We value kindness, collaboration and bringing our whole selves to work
  • We take a hybrid approach to remote working – you'll be in the office about three days a week, with flexibility if you need it.

About you

Most of all, we're looking for someone who enjoys getting stuck in to the full product lifecycle. It's an added bonus if you've been part of teams who've launched products to market, but we're not looking for any specific kind of sector or product experience. We believe diversity of thought is more important, to push us to think differently.

Description of role and key responsibilities:

Day-to-day, you'll:

  • Own the experience for a product area and help to shape the future vision and growth for that product to best meet our client's needs
  • Develop a deep empathy and understanding for what, why and how our clients do what they do
  • Create high-quality UX outputs for immediate sprint demands and future roadmap concepts
  • Drive client engagement by reducing cognitive load in flows and client journeys
  • Contribute to our global design system and community
  • Learn and experiment with new domains and methodologies
  • Work closely with product and engineering to drive product delivery and client outcomes at speed
  • And last but not least, you'll help shape our environment by bringing your own passions, ideas and fun to the team

What core skills & knowledge is needed for this role?

  • You've got a track record of working as a product or UX designer across any domain
  • You're a keen learner with the ability to learn, unlearn, and learn again
  • You can bring diversity of background, thinking and experience – coming from a range of backgrounds is a big part of what makes our team successful
  • You have genuine empathy for our clients and a passion for giving them a great user experience
  • You strive to build great products in a fast-paced environment
  • You're comfortable working with uncertainty, with the ability to create structure and rigour at speed
