At Investec, we do things differently. We're a leading international bank and wealth manager built on a culture of curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit and human connection. Ideas are heard, ambition is celebrated, and impact is encouraged. As part of a team that challenges convention and strives for outperformance, you'll help shape bold solutions for clients who expect something more than the ordinary.
Role summary
Reporting into the Transformation Team Lead and initially supporting Group Lending Operations (GLO) UK, this role is responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting the Investec Operations ServiceNow instance.
We are looking for a hands-on ServiceNow Senior Developer who can build clean, reliable ServiceNow solutions, improve operational workflows, and provide day-to-day technical leadership to two junior developers. This is a senior delivery role with player-coach responsibilities, code quality ownership and close collaboration with business and technology stakeholders.
The role is suited to someone who enjoys remaining hands-on in the platform while helping a small development team raise standards, deliver consistently and support automation-led transformation.
Description of role and key responsibilities
Hands-on ServiceNow development and delivery
- Design, build, configure and enhance ServiceNow workflows, forms, catalog items, flows, business rules, client scripts, script includes, UI policies, notifications and related platform components.
- Develop robust, reusable and maintainable solutions aligned with ServiceNow development best practice.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical designs and working solutions.
- Support testing, deployment, release activities and post-release fixes.
Technical leadership and mentoring
- Guide and mentor a small team of ServiceNow developers, initially two junior developers, helping them build technical capability and confidence.
- Provide day-to-day technical direction, task breakdown and delivery support.
- Review code and configuration changes, improve quality and promote maintainable development practices.
- Foster an automation-first, continuous-improvement engineering mindset within the team.
Platform standards and quality
- Help maintain development standards, design principles, documentation and governance for the Investec Operations ServiceNow instance.
- Ensure solutions are secure, maintainable, auditable and aligned with agreed platform standards.
- Work closely with the Group ServiceNow team to stay aligned with the wider ServiceNow strategy.
- Identify opportunities to reduce duplication and promote reuse across teams and business units.
Integration and automation
- Build and support integrations using REST, SOAP, MID Server and related ServiceNow integration patterns.
- Automate manual operational processes to reduce effort, improve control and lower operational risk.
- Collaborate with adjacent technology teams where solutions involve Microsoft Power Automate or other workflow tools.
- Support adoption of relevant ServiceNow capabilities, including automation, workflow digitisation and AI-enabled features where they add value.
Stakeholder collaboration and transformation support
- Partner with GLO UK, GLO Transformation, technology teams and business users to understand process pain points, priorities and delivery outcomes.
- Challenge requirements constructively and recommend pragmatic ServiceNow-led solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Support roadmap delivery for ServiceNow capability expansion across the lending operations environment.
Support, governance and continuous improvement
- Provide escalation support for complex ServiceNow issues and help protect platform stability.
- Contribute to incident and problem resolution where platform development expertise is required.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and support knowledge sharing across the team.
- Stay current with ServiceNow platform capabilities and recommend improvements where they add business value.
Core skills and knowledge
- 5+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience.
- Strong JavaScript development skills and practical experience with Glide APIs.
- Experience configuring and developing ServiceNow workflows, Flow Designer, business rules, client scripts, script includes, UI policies, forms, catalog items and notifications.
- Strong understanding of ServiceNow platform development best practices.
- Experience with ServiceNow integrations, including REST, SOAP and MID Server.
- Experience leading, coaching or mentoring junior developers while remaining hands-on.
- Ability to translate business requirements into practical ServiceNow solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on reliability, reusability and maintainability.
- Good stakeholder communication skills and confidence challenging requirements constructively.
Helpful but not essential
- ServiceNow certifications, such as Certified System Administrator (CSA) and/or Certified Application Developer (CAD).
- Experience with Microsoft Power Automate or similar low-code workflow automation tools.
- Experience in banking, financial services, operations or lending environments.
- Experience working in transformation, change delivery or process-improvement teams.
- Exposure to ServiceNow AI, automation or workflow digitisation capabilities.
- Curiosity and initiative to learn both the lending domain and the ServiceNow platform.
Candidate profile
This role would suit someone who:
- Is a strong ServiceNow developer ready to take on more technical leadership.
- Enjoys solving process problems and delivering automation.
- Can mentor junior developers without stepping away from hands-on development work.
- Is comfortable working with business stakeholders and technology teams.
