Investec's Investment Banking Technology team is seeking an experienced Electronic Trading Analyst to join our Investment Banking Technology team. You'll have deep expertise in UK and European equity markets, with this role focusing on analysing UK equities trade flows, particularly electronic and algorithmic execution, including monitoring trading performance across venues and strategies, identifying patterns and anomalies, and delivering actionable insights to traders on execution trends and venue dynamics.
You will collaborate closely with traders and technology teams to refine execution strategies such as VWAP, TWAP, POV, and Implementation Shortfall. Your input will help enhance smart order routing and algorithmic logic and contribute to the strategic roadmap for trading tools and analytics.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in enhancing trading strategies and ensuring the team remains at the forefront of market innovation and performance. To succeed in this role, the successful candidate will combine technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a strong implementation focus. The role requires extensive experience working directly on a trade floor, with deep understanding of at least one of: Fidessa or Broadridge suite of applications.
What will I be doing?
- Market and flow analysis
- Analyse UK equities trade flows with emphasis on electronic and algorithmic execution.
- Monitor and assess trading performance across venues and strategies; identify patterns, anomalies, and optimisation opportunities.
- Produce actionable insights for traders on execution trends and venue dynamics.
- Technical insight and trading strategy
- Collaborate with traders and technology teams to refine electronic execution strategies (VWAP, TWAP, POV, Implementation Shortfall).
- Evaluate and contribute to enhancements of smart order routing and algorithmic execution logic.
- Apply experience with Fidessa (market making and RSP) and with the Broadridge suite (TBricks, ULLINK).
- Stakeholder collaboration
- Liaise with IT, compliance, external EMS/OMS vendors, and algo developers to support infrastructure improvements.
- Support client trading teams and distribution with analytics, presentations, and custom studies.
- Reporting and research
- Produce regular reports and dashboards on trading performance, liquidity metrics, and market trends.
- Research new tools and datasets to enhance decision‑making, including transaction cost analysis and pre-/post-trade analytics.
What we are looking for
- Direct experience with EMS and OMS platforms and trading infrastructure.
- Strong background in equity trading, with demonstrable electronic trading or market structure analysis.
- Deep understanding of UK equity markets and venues (LSE, CBOE Europe, Turquoise) and liquidity dynamics.
- Proficiency in algorithmic trading principles and execution strategies.
- Technical fluency with trading data tools (Python, SQL, Excel VBA, or equivalent) for data analysis and automation.
- Solid understanding of FIX protocol, practical experience with FIX hubs and connectivity.
- Programming/scripting: good understanding of LUA; SQL for querying large datasets; advanced Excel with VBA for prototyping, trade flow tracking, and dashboards.
- Market connectivity and protocols: strong knowledge of FIX, ability to interpret FIX messages (NewOrderSingle, ExecutionReport), experience with FIX hubs/gateways and connectivity troubleshooting.
Nice-to-have (beneficial, but not essential)
- Exposure to global equities (US, EU, India) and cross-market liquidity considerations.
- Experience with TCA platforms such as Bloomberg BTCA and Virtu.
- Knowledge of MiFID II regulatory regimes and other trading rules.
