As the Business Manager you will join the IW&I Digital & Technology team responsible for all aspects of running technology and change as a business. This will cover the crucial aspects of people, money, governance, compliance and strategy.

  • You will support the technology leadership teams in developing strategy, in making timely and informed decisions and keep a strong handle on the operational rhythm of the Technology team. You will act as the bridge between the CTO, the leadership team and rest of the Technology teams as well as the wider business stakeholders and communicate effectively to ensure everyone is aware of what's happening.
  • You join the dots across different initiatives and business functions to provide a holistic view against the business goals to aid executive decision making. You will work closely with the PMO that maintains and provides a holistic view of Digital and Technology function via MI dashboards and reporting drumbeat.
  • You will be responsible for the all aspects of the annual budget for the IW&I Digital and Technology team and manage the budget on behalf of the CTO.
  • You will help the CTO and the leadership team to define the people strategy and working with the supporting functions to execute that maintaining up to date status and providing clear MI on the headcount against the strategy and budget.
  • You will ensure that the CTO and the leadership team is discharging their managerial responsibilities as per the defined policies. Sometimes creating new ones or reviewing and updating existing ones to make them fit for purpose. On behalf of the CTO, you will own and run all the critical governance forums following good practice and ensure appropriate audit trail is maintained for reference as and when needed including ensuring SMCR accountabilities are evidenced.
  • You will be comfortable with ambiguity and will lead strategic initiatives that do not fit neatly into existing organisational or functional structures.
  • You will build and manage strong relationships with stakeholders across the business in IW&I and the wider Investec Group.

Skills and knowledge: 

  • You are a strategic thinker and are able to engage and energise different groups of people to define vision, strategy and implementation roadmaps.
  • You have very well-developed project management skills - being organized and disciplined, have very good attention to detail, and ability to doggedly follow up on actions to ensure the right results are achieved.
  • You have very strong understanding of technology finance and management accounting practices. You have created, owned and managed multi-million pound budgets. You have a good understanding of the tax implications of spending decisions that involves internal teams spread across different countries as well as cross-border intra-company service provision.
  • You have strong commercial acumen and are business savvy, including an understanding of the Wealth Management market, the competitors, and trends. You have in-depth knowledge of the client expectations in the sector and how technology helps to address client needs to create sustained operating results.
  • You understand people and their motivations, you have the ability to see what pressures the leaders are facing in pushing change and you can engineer ways to reduce or alleviate them.
  • You have the ability to recognise which relationships are most important to the success of the leader and team's goals and you are able to strengthen them.
  • You are a people person who can drive stakeholders and business partners, build strong relationships to manage conflicting priorities and build consensus. You can foster open and honest communication which anticipates expectations of various groups of people and get buy-in to the strategy.
  • You have experience of developing the people and talent strategy for digital and technology function. You have a thorough understanding of the digital and technology talent marketplace globally and can help with decisions on setting up capabilities in different locations
  • You have demonstrated that you can free up thinking time for the executives by taking care of the hygiene factors and general day-to-day running of a business function. You were trusted by senior executives to take ownership of initiatives that are critical but were ambiguous or wasn't clearly formed.
  • You have excellent communication skills and are able to refine the messages to ensure it is understood by the right audiences. You have produced exec ready packs in short notice that tells the story with sufficient information to drive the right decisions. You are flexible in your approach and can work around the priorities of various executives to collaborate and co-create the communication packs and messages.
  • You have strong understanding of the industry regulations (such as SMCR, CASS, Financial Crime, AML etc) and experience of successfully navigating through them.
