Trainee Investment Manager/Administrator

Team description

To act in a support role to the IWICI Team of Investment Managers and Assistants in the sourcing, originating and managing of client investment mandates.  This encompasses all elements of client take-on, client liaison, administrative support, process management and record-keeping. This is an entry level investment admin role with the potential to progress a career in investment management over the next 3 to 5 years. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve the appropriate qualifications to progress through the Investment Management career path.

Description of role and key responsibilities

To assist the IWICI Front Office in establishing and delivering against the overall strategic and quantitative goals (of client /mandate acquisition and profitable client-management).

Liaising with clients in relation to their investment portfolios and ongoing requirements with the assistance of Investment Practitioners. This expressly excludes the provision of investment advice, dealing and management, until suitably qualified. Adhering to the client on-boarding procedures for all new clients to include:

  • Assisting Investment Managers with IWICI client collateral review, with client feedback and guidance where necessary to ensure accurate completion.
  • Due diligence and client screening checks via external databases on a risk based approach; namely Google, Dow Jones/Worldcheck. Assisting in the due diligence & take-on procedures required for new clients.

Responsibility for the coordination of Guernsey requirements for the UK Managed/Guernsey custody client on-boarding process.

Maintaining client records.

  • Liaise with clients and intermediaries as required including transaction reporting correspondence.
  • Produce information for client meetings
  • Maintain accurate and up to date ‘Know Your Client' information.
    Attend appropriate client meetings with Investment Practitioners.
    Dealing with ongoing clients' management and requests on a daily basis – as required.
  • Assist in account opening.
    To act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating our customers fairly.
  • Daily monitoring of the Cash and Credit report and rectification of any overdrafts.
  • Money in and money out monitoring of client payments and funds received.
  • Deal status tracking and reporting on future deals in the pipeline.
  • Preparation of client reports (valuations and reconciliation of client accounts) as required.
  • Inputting of trades and reconciliation thereof.
  • Client cash management.
  • To ensure that all business conducted in accordance with the rules, guidelines and expectations of the GFSC.

Core skills and knowledge

  • Good level of education with some relevant financial experience.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Client relationship skills.
  • Ability to understand and implement all relevant procedures & compliance considerations for client take on and maintenance.
  • Be able to research and assemble supporting documentation in respect of client take-on.
  • Proactive individual who is naturally efficient, organised, can manage time well and competent at working to deadlines.
  • Highly IT literate with an ability to learn new systems
  • Attention to detail.
  • An understanding of the financial markets and instruments although useful is not essential, as this will be taught and will develop over time.
  • A strong work ethic.
